In 1977 George Maciunas suggested that a Fluxus approach to sport would look something like John Cage’s prepared piano. The comparison suggests an approach to athletics that discards the goal of perfecting performance within a given set of rules, and instead asks What if the rules were rewritten? For the arrival of the Autumn 2013 season at TOC, we’ve invited Los Angeles-based Building Block and New York-based Correll Correll to help us explore this playful approach to one of our all-time favorite sports: table tennis.
On Saturday, September 14, we will welcome a season of Play at TOC with the launch of a specially designed ping pong table by Joseph Magliaro of TOC featuring hand-knit nets by Correll Correll, and an exclusive edition of ping pong paddles from Building Block. Following a lesson from a special guest, the table will be open to test out your chops!
We’re super excited that Building Block founders Kimberly and Nancy Wu will be in attendance!
Saturday, September 14, 6-9pm. Stop by!
